Winter is the perfect time to transform your home into a cozy atmosphere.  As the weather changes and the sun sets earlier, it's a beautiful season to minimize commitments and elevate family time in your home. From fresh, clean spaces to adding a touch of elegance and comfort, here are nine simple ways to add some cozy to your home.

#1—Declutter one area of your home

It's as simple as setting your timer for 15 minutes and tackling one spot. You don't need all day or even a few hours. What is one area that is causing you stress every time you see it? Is it the kitchen utensil drawer, the piles on your dining room table, your closet, or the shoes that seem to pile up at the back door? Choose one area that will give you instant gratification. This straightforward approach to decluttering can create a more organized and visually appealing space, reduce stress, and promote a sense of calm. The sense of accomplishment you'll feel after decluttering will motivate you to continue. Imagine if you extended this habit and decluttered for 15 minutes daily this month? What a powerful transformation it could bring to your environment. A clutter-free space can also improve productivity, reduce allergens, and make cleaning easier, making it a crucial step in creating a cozy home.

#2—Freshen the air of your Home

Opening your windows for 15 minutes daily will breathe new life into your home and revitalize it with fresh air that sweeps away stagnant air and bacteria, leaving you feeling refreshed, invigorated, and healthier. It's like a breath of fresh air for your home and health. After you freshen the rooms, run your diffuser with essential oils to add even more health benefits to your living space. My favorite is a blend of cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg. It smells like pumpkin spice and makes my home feel so cozy. Add a simmer pot with apples, oranges, and cinnamon sticks. Your sense of smell and well-being will feel revitalized.

#3—Clear all the surfaces

Clearing off flat surfaces will make a difference in your ability to see the beauty without the chaos in your home. It is one of the most straightforward ways to create a sense of calm in your home. Once you have all your surfaces cleared, you can quickly make your rounds by spraying down the flat surfaces with your favorite DIY cleaner. Making your cleaner is as simple as mixing natural elements such as vinegar, water, and a few drops of essential oil. My favorite cleaning essential oils are Lemon, Cinnamon, and Orange. You can use them alone or mixed. A natural and effective cleaner is a great way to keep your home clean and eliminates the need for harsh chemicals that damage. Vinegar is a powerful disinfectant, and essential oils add a pleasant scent. If DIY isn't your thing, you can find my favorite ready-to-go cleaner, which is eco-friendly and safe for your family. After clearing off your dining room table, you may be inspired to host a few dinner parties you've wanted to do for a while.

#4 - Have a daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning plan

Need some inspiration? Check out my top 4 daily chores in this blog article
Creating a weekly and monthly cleaning schedule can help you stay on top of things and never let your home become unmanageable again. By dividing your home into four zones and tackling one each week, you'll feel more organized, in control, and less overwhelmed. Our family spends 1-2 hours deep cleaning each zone each weekend, ensuring our home stays in shape. It's a simple strategy that can significantly affect how you feel about your home.

Zone 1: Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room
Zone 2: Bathrooms, Laundry Room
Zone 3: Bedrooms
Zone 4: Offices and extra rooms

#5—Add soft lighting to your rooms with warmer tones with lamps and bulbs

Consider turning off all bright overhead lights after sunset to allow your body to prepare for deeper sleep and replacing them with soft table lamps with warm-toned bulbs, string lights, twinkle lights, nontoxic candles, flameless candles, and firelight with shorter days this fall. This will help regulate your circadian rhythm by telling your body to wind down and prepare for rest. It can also reduce stress and anxiety after a long day. The calm atmosphere will make your home cozy and enhance your mood. You can also help your body adjust to waking up before dawn by using soft lighting in the morning for a comfortable atmosphere.

#6— Add indoor plants

Add indoor plants to help reduce stress levels, brain fog, and indoor air quality. Plants are an effective way to make your house feel cozy and beautiful. They also have various health benefits, such as improved sleep, reduced fatigue, and anxiety. A perfect place to consider placing a plant is in your bathroom to reduce moisture or in your bedroom to improve sleep. Plants can also be a key element for cozy living spaces like your family room.

#7— Add a touch of seasonal decor

Cozy your living areas with home decor such as winter linens, new pillow covers, accent pillows, and chunky knit blankets in seasonal colors, which are great for this time of year. Change up your bedding and add some throw blankets to your bed. Add a new tablecloth to your dining table for weeknight dinners. Plush rugs add extra warmth to any room. Wood tones, warmer colors, a wicker basket, and natural materials like pine cones create seasonal themed art with a cozy feel as we head into the winter months with different textures. Remember to grab your favorite book on the coffee table when you have a few extra minutes. Another great idea is to visit your favorite thrift store to find a good thrift deal for an inexpensive way to add seasonally themed decor to your home.

#8—Set up a hot tea or coffee bar

Dark mornings call for a hot drink with a good book before a candle or cozy fire this fall season, whether coffee, tea, or hot apple cider. Set out your tea kettle, a coffee pot, and favorite mugs.

#9 - Bake

Nothing is more wonderful than the smell of baked goods from your kitchen. It's a favorite way our family loves to enjoy an extra sense of cozy in our home. Whether it's pumpkin bread, apple pie, or fresh sourdough bread, there's an instant sense of cozy and memories. Here's one of our favorite recipes

These simple changes, whether decluttering or adding some new decor, are inexpensive ways to create a cozy atmosphere in your home. Tackle each step one day at a time, and you will transform your home into beauty this season.

Blessings,
Leslie
